There is currently tension at the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja over attempts to hold parallel meetings.
The National Working Committee (NWC) elected in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, and the faction backed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had fixed meetings for today.
Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the pro-Wike faction, had arrived the Wadata Plaza with some members of the faction.
Shortly afterward, members of the Taminu Turaki faction arrived at the party headquarters but were blocked from entering.
Two governors, however, managed to force their way inside.
As other faction members attempted to enter, security personnel fired gunshots and deployed teargas to disperse the crowd, causing panic as many rushed to safety.
Earlier, while speaking to journalists in his office before the other faction’s arrival, Anyanwu described the heightened security as a routine measure to maintain law and order.
He added that his faction was prepared for both the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.(Dailypost)
