10 Police Officers, 2 Civilians Killed as Security Forces Neutralize 17 Bandits in Kebbi Gun Battle

Ten police officers and two civilians have lost their lives following a fierce gun duel between security personnel and armed bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State. At least 17 suspected bandits were neutralized during the encounter.

The confrontation occurred along the Rafin Makuku axis when security operatives intercepted a heavily armed group moving along the border corridor between Zamfara and Kebbi states.

Confirming the incident, Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson Bashir Usman stated that security personnel engaged the armed group, killing at least 17 attackers and destroying four operational motorcycles belonging to the bandits. Two other officers sustained injuries during the engagement and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, issued a statement reflecting the deep grief of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu over the tragic loss. The Inspector-General commended the fallen officers for their gallantry and ultimate sacrifice in protecting citizens, offering condolences to their families and promising full support for the bereaved and wounded personnel.

The remains of the deceased officers have been transported to Birnin Kebbi. Authorities confirm that reinforcement troops have been deployed to the area to stabilize the region and track down remaining elements of the fleeing bandit group.
