2 Convicted In Kano, Sokoto For Illegal PVCs Possession

Two persons found with and illegally possessing many Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in Kano and Sokoto States were convicted.
Acting chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and National Commissioner, overseeing the FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau states, Malam Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in Abuja without giving further details on the duo.
“Some of you are aware that only recently, INEC managed to convict two people in Sokoto and Kano states found in possession of PVCs,” he said
Malam Haruna who was speaking on Monday at the launch of the #YourVoteMatters project by NESSACTION, an election observer group, told those who have not collected their PVCS to do so.
He urged them to keep them safely, and make sure that on election day, they go out and cast their votes, saying without PVC, one cannot vote.”
The INEC Commissioner said some politicians were buying PVCs and financially inducing voters to harvest their Voter Identification Numbers (VIN).
The International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES); the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office organised the launch and the Voter Education.
Executive Director, NESSACTION, Eniola Cole, said the voter education would be carried out in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Plateau states, and would offer logistics and give incentives to communities with low PVCs collection rates.
