23-year-old Woman Takes Own Life After Her Husband Called Her a Monkey

A 23-year-old woman, identified as Tannu Singh, has reportedly died by suicide following an alleged derogatory remark made by her husband during a family feud, police authorities have said.

The incident occurred last Wednesday at the couple’s residence in the Takrohi area of Indiranagar, according to a report by The Times of India.

Police sources stated that Tannu was emotionally distressed after her husband, Rahul Srivastava, allegedly referred to her as a “monkey” during what was described as light-hearted banter in the presence of her sister.

Tannu had married Rahul about four years ago after a love relationship. Rahul works as an auto-rickshaw driver, while Tannu was reportedly pursuing modelling. The couple lived together with their young son.

According to information provided by Rahul to the police, the incident took place in the afternoon when he, Tannu, her sister Anjali, and their son were at home. During casual joking, Rahul and Anjali allegedly mocked Tannu, which appeared to upset her. She reportedly left the room without responding.

Rahul later went out briefly to get food. Upon his return, Anjali attempted to check on Tannu but found the room locked. When there was no response, family members sought help.

Tannu was rushed to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was brought in dead.

Police said a post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as suicide. An investigation is ongoing, and statements from family members have been recorded.

Authorities have urged the public to be mindful of emotional well-being and the impact of words within family settings
