9 Killed in Gombe Road Crash After Trailer Hits Bus

Gombe State witnessed a tragic road accident on Monday morning that claimed at least nine lives and left five others with injuries. The collision occurred on the Kaltungo–Cham Road in the Kaluwa community, within the Kaltungo Local Government Area.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Gombe State, Samson Kaura, the accident took place around 8:33 a.m. and involved a speeding trailer and a Sharon bus. Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer, descending a sloping section of the road, lost control due to excessive speed and brake failure, colliding with the bus from behind.

The impact caused the bus to somersault. Out of the 18 people involved in the crash, nine lost their lives, five sustained varying degrees of injury, and four escaped unharmed. The injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Kaltungo for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Sector Commander Kaura used the occasion to reiterate critical safety advice to motorists, especially with the festive season underway. He emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive speed, particularly on sloping roads, and urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys.

“We have been advising motorists to avoid excessive speed, especially given the nature of the road, which is sloping. Drivers must travel at a controllable speed to prevent such crashes and the loss of lives and property,” Kaura stated. “Motorists should check their vehicles before setting out on any journey.

This devastating incident follows closely on the heels of another fatal crash last week, which killed eight students of the University of Jos on December 11, 2025. The back-to-back tragedies have cast a somber shadow and renewed calls for heightened road safety awareness across the country.
