Nigerian Teacher, Adeola Akinsulure, Makes Global Top 50 at Teacher Prize

A Nigerian biology teacher, Adeola Akinsulure from Omole Senior Grammar School in Lagos State, has been named among the top 50 global teachers at the Global Teacher Prize 2026, organized by the Varkey Foundation.

Akinsulure was selected from over 5,000 nominations and applications across 139 countries, highlighting the prestige and competitiveness of the award. She is recognized for her impactful work in transforming Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education, particularly in mentoring girls and promoting environmental sustainability.

Stakeholders are calling on the Nigerian government and Lagos State Government to formally recognize and celebrate Akinsulure’s achievement, which puts Nigeria on the global education map. Akinsulure expressed gratitude to her mentors, partners, colleagues, and students for their support.

The Global Teacher Prize celebrates exceptional educators who have made outstanding contributions to teaching and society. The award is a Varkey Foundation initiative, organized with UNESCO.
