Nigerian Boxers Shine at African Youth Games, Grab 2 Golds

Nigerian boxers Ayomide Mayowa and Faruk Abijuwon have emerged victorious at the 4th African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, claiming gold medals in their respective categories. Mayowa kicked off Nigeria’s gold medal haul, defeating Algeria’s Bensallah Bouthania in the female 48kg final, while Abijuwon followed suit, overcoming Bofenda Mabela of the Republic of Congo in the male 50kg final.

The duo delivered commanding performances, showcasing exceptional skill and composure throughout the tournament. Mayowa’s path to gold included wins against Angola’s Zola Lando and Tunisia’s Queslati Tasnim, while Abijuwon defeated Tunisia’s Salmane Kochbati and Ghana’s Williams Laryea en route to the final.

The Nigeria Boxing Federation hailed the boxers’ achievements as a proud moment for Nigerian boxing. Vice President Omonlei Imadu congratulated the fighters, describing their success as a sign that the future of Nigerian boxing is bright. Solomon Joshua also earned a bronze medal, adding to Nigeria’s success at the Games.

The gold medal wins mark a notable achievement for Nigerian boxing, with Mayowa and Abijuwon demonstrating exceptional talent and determination.
