Elderly Citizen in Ogun Get N200k Boost from Oluremi Tinubu

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated N200,000 each to 250 elderly persons in Ogun State as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme.

The event, themed “Finding Joy in Old Age,” was held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, and was represented by the state governor’s wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun.

Tinubu stated that the scheme is part of the administration’s efforts to ensure elderly citizens live with dignity and joy, recognizing their contributions to nation-building. Since 2023, the Renewed Hope Initiative has celebrated senior citizens every December.

The scheme will support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens, aged 65 and above, in all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA). A total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed, with each state receiving N50 million.

Tinubu urged the elderly to prioritize their health and well-being, stay active, and engage in charitable work. She thanked them for their service and sacrifices to Nigeria, wishing them good health, peace, and renewed hope.

The National Population on Ageing report (2020) highlights challenges faced by the ageing population, including social, health, economic, and financial constraints.

Interventions like the Renewed Hope Initiative help address these issues and provide support to elderly citizens.
