Tinubu Offers Condolences to Anthony Joshua After Accident Claims Two Lives
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reached out to express his condolences to world champion boxer Anthony Joshua, after a tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of two of the athlete’s associates and left Joshua injured.
The President, currently on an official trip abroad, personally spoke with Joshua by telephone on Wednesday. According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu conveyed his sympathy and wished the boxer a swift recovery.
“I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident,” the President told Joshua.
Tinubu also extended his support in separate calls to Joshua’s mother and to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun. Governor Abiodun assured the President that Joshua was receiving and would continue to get the best possible medical attention.
In his statement, President Tinubu praised Joshua as a national icon, highlighting his “courage, discipline, and love for Nigeria.” He prayed for strength and wisdom for the boxer during this challenging time.
The accident, which occurred in Ogun State, has prompted an outpouring of concern and sympathy for Joshua and the families of the deceased from across the nation and the sporting world.
