Nigeria Set to Face Mozambique in AFCON Round of 16
The Super Eagles of Nigeria now know their opponent for the knockout phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having been paired with Mozambique in the round of 16.
Nigeria secured top position in Group C with a perfect record, winning all three matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. This placed them in a position to face a third-place finisher from another group.
Mozambique’s path was confirmed on Wednesday following the conclusion of Groups E and F. Despite a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in their final group match, results elsewhere saw the Mambas advance as one of the best third-placed teams from Group F.
The pairing brings a note of caution for some Nigerian supporters. The team’s last flawless group-stage performance in the 2021 tournament was followed by an unexpected round-of-16 exit. The current squad will be aiming to translate their strong early form into a more extended campaign this time.
The match is scheduled to take place on Monday in Fez, Morocco.
The complete round of 16 fixture list also includes Mali vs. Tunisia, Morocco vs. Tanzania, Algeria vs. DR Congo, Egypt vs. Benin, Senegal vs. Sudan, South Africa vs. Cameroon, and Burkina Faso vs. Ivory Coast.
