Mozambique president: Daniel Francisco Chapo

President Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique has praised the national football team, the Mambas, for their historic qualification to the knockout stages of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and pledged a significant financial reward for a victory in their next match.

The team secured a spot in the round of 16 by finishing third in Group F, despite a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in their final group game. This achievement sets up a decisive encounter with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

In an official statement released on Thursday, President Chapo commended the players and coaching staff for their performance in the group stage. He described the team’s advancement as an unprecedented and praiseworthy accomplishment that has brought pride to the nation.

To further motivate the squad, the President announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais (approximately 11.3 million Nigerian Naira) for each player and staff member should they defeat Nigeria and progress to the tournament quarter-finals.

The statement expressed the support of the entire nation and conveyed confidence in the team’s ability to succeed in the upcoming challenge.

Mozambique will face Nigeria at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with the match scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. local time.
