Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Urges South-East to Back Tinubu in 2027
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called for political unity in Nigeria’s South-East region, urging support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu on Saturday, Kalu framed the upcoming election as a strategic calculation. He cautioned that internal division could leave the region without sufficient political leverage at the national level.
“Politics is a game of numbers, not sentiments. A vote cast where it does not count toward success is an opportunity lost at the negotiation table,” Kalu stated in a released message.
He argued that aligning with Tinubu and the ruling APC is the most practical path for the South-East to gain influence, emphasizing the need to “invest” votes where they will yield tangible returns. Kalu also warned against political choices that might isolate the region.
The appeal underscores ongoing efforts by the APC to consolidate support in a region that has not traditionally been its stronghold ahead of the next general elections.
