The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has announced a N6.452 billion allocation for 271 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria as part of its 2026 intervention programme.

The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja that the funds, approved by President Bola Tinubu, are intended to support infrastructure, teaching, research, and innovation.

Under the disbursement plan:

· Each university will receive N2.525 billion

· Each polytechnic will get N1.871 billion

· Each college of education will be allocated N2.056 billion

Echono stated that the allocations aim to strengthen academic programmes, boost research, and drive transformation in the tertiary education sector. He also introduced a new intervention line the Nigerian Research and Education Network designed to improve access to global academic resources.

The TETFund boss cautioned institutions against leaving funds idle, noting that future allocations will depend on the utilization of current resources. He also highlighted delays in project approvals and procurement processes during the previous intervention cycle, urging institutions to begin planning early.

The funds will be paid directly to beneficiary institutions.
