Senegal Football Federation Voices Concerns Over AFCON Final Preparations
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has publicly raised a series of logistical and security concerns ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, calling on tournament organizers to implement immediate corrective measures.
In an official communiqué issued on Saturday, the federation cited issues related to security, accommodation, training facilities, and ticketing, stating it was speaking out for “transparency and defence of the interests of the Senegal national team.”
According to the statement, the Senegalese delegation encountered insufficient security upon arrival at the Rabat railway station in Morocco. The FSF warned that the lapse exposed players and officials to “risks incompatible with the standards of a competition of this magnitude.”
The federation also reported initial challenges with team accommodation, noting that an official written protest was required before a suitable 5-star hotel was secured to “guarantee the required recovery conditions.”
A significant point of contention involves training facilities. Senegal has formally refused to use the Mohammed VI Complex, which serves as the base camp for their opponents in the final, citing concerns over “sporting fairness.” The FSF stated that, as of the release of the communiqué, it had not yet received confirmation of an alternative training site.
Ticketing allocations have further frustrated officials. While the FSF confirmed it purchased its maximum authorized allotment of tickets, it described the official endowment of only two top-tier VVIP tickets for the final as inadequate, especially compared to provisions during the semi-final stage.
The federation concluded by urging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Local Organizing Committee “to take all immediate corrective measures to ensure respect for the principles of Fair Play, equal treatment and safety.”
Senegal, the reigning African champions, are set to compete in the AFCON 2025 final following their semi-final victory over Egypt on Wednesday.
