Troops Ambushed in Zamfara, Six Security Personnel Killed

Five soldiers and one police officer have been killed following a terrorist ambush in Zamfara State. The attack targeted troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Monday along the Bingi–Kekun Waje–Gusau Road.

The soldiers were returning from a series of offensive operations conducted between January 17 and 19 in the Birnin Magaji and Anka areas. According to a statement by the operation’s Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, those earlier operations had resulted in the arrest of three suspects, the death of four terrorists, and the recovery of weapons including rifles and a machine gun.

The ambush occurred as troops responded to a distress call about a reprisal attack. Despite the surprise assault, the military stated that the troops engaged the attackers and prevented harm to nearby communities. Reinforcement teams were swiftly deployed, mounting a counter-ambush that forced the terrorists to withdraw.

Military intelligence suggests that a notorious bandit kingpin, Janwuya, and another high-ranking terrorist, Alhaji Bello, sustained serious gunshot wounds during the encounter.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has assured the public that the situation is under control and has condoled with the families of the fallen personnel. The public is urged to remain calm and continue supporting security operations with timely information.
