Lagos Police Probe DPO Over Alleged Abuse of Power in Car Dispute
The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the conduct of the Divisional Police Officer of Olosan Police Station, Mushin, CSP Ayanwale Ayodeji, following allegations of abuse of power and intimidation that went viral on social media.
The controversy stems from a minor traffic incident reported on January 19 near Oye Roundabout in Mushin. A social media user, Akin Akinwale, alleged that after his friend’s car brushed a parked vehicle belonging to an acquaintance of the DPO, CSP Ayodeji threatened to jail the motorist despite an immediate offer to repair the damage. The online post claimed the DPO insisted he would not relent “even if the Inspector-General of Police intervenes.”
In a response, the Police Complaint Response Unit provided a preliminary account, stating that both parties were brought to the station and advised to settle amicably after statements were taken, but no resolution was reached.
While the complainant alleges threats and abuse of authority, police sources indicate the DPO has been attempting to mediate a resolution. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the command is reviewing the matter.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the conduct of the officer involved.
