Woman arrested for plotting robbery of boyfriend’s N13m gold in Delta

A 24-year-old woman, Jessica Anthony, is in police custody in Delta State after allegedly conspiring with her friend to hire armed robbers to steal gold jewellery belonging to her boyfriend, valued at over ₦13 million.

The suspect reportedly confessed that she initiated contact with the criminals and even led them to her boyfriend’s residence, before the plot was foiled through a coordinated effort involving the victim and local security operatives.

Jessica, who was arrested alongside her friend, Ada, told investigators that she arranged the robbery because she needed money to settle her sister’s bills. According to her, the agreement was that the gold would be stolen, sold, and the proceeds handed over to her.

“I asked the boys to go there and collect his gold. They would have sold it and given the money to me,” she confessed, adding that she would have been hurt if her boyfriend had done the same thing to her.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, while parading the suspects in Asaba, said the woman and the victim had been in a relationship, briefly separated, and reunited in December 2025.

“They were still intimate last December,” Edafe said. “Unknown to the man, she conspired with her friend and went to one of the known black spots in Warri to look for criminals to carry out the robbery.”

According to him, Jessica unknowingly approached a community leader who had been assisting the police in flushing out criminal elements in the area. After demanding a photograph of the intended victim, the man immediately recognised him and alerted both the victim and security agencies.

“They told her they needed ₦65,000 to buy tools. She transferred ₦50,000 via POS and added ₦15,000 cash. She even personally took them to the estate and showed them her boyfriend’s house,” Edafe narrated.

The police spokesman added that the suspects were arrested while returning from the estate after the boyfriend alerted the estate’s security.

The victim, who reportedly owns several gold items, told police that one of his gold bracelets was worth ₦4.2 million, while another was valued at ₦8.9 million.

“I feel heartbroken because I never expected it from her,” he said.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
