Ugandan Security Forces Raid Opposition Leader Bobi Wine’s Residence
Ugandan opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, reported a raid by armed security personnel on his family home in Magere on Friday evening. In a video statement shared online, he alleged that military operatives forcibly entered the property, demanding that his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, either surrender him or disclose his location.
The footage shows Barbara Kyagulanyi confronting unidentified armed men within the compound, repeatedly asking them to state their purpose. “What do you want in our compound?” she is heard demanding.
This latest incident intensifies concerns over the treatment of opposition voices in Uganda. Bobi Wine, a prominent challenger to President Yoweri Museveni’s long-standing administration, has faced multiple arrests, surveillance, and raids by state security forces in recent years.
The operation follows a controversial public directive from Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the president’s son. Earlier, Kainerugaba stated that Bobi Wine would be barred from future electoral processes, citing national security concerns.
Ugandan authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the raid or provided a reason for the search.
