Clinic Owners Arrested Over Death of Pregnant Woman in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a couple for allegedly operating an illegal medical clinic where a 28-year-old pregnant woman, identified as Iyanu, died during childbirth.
The suspects, Kehinde Olawuyi, 36, and his wife, Eniola Olawuyi, were taken into custody following reports that their unlicensed facility in the Ore area of Odigbo Local Government mishandled the delivery procedure.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the victim was admitted to the clinic on January 4 for delivery. It was alleged that the procedure was conducted unprofessionally, causing the woman to bleed excessively and lose consciousness.
She was rushed to another medical facility but was later confirmed dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were not registered medical practitioners and were operating the clinic illegally.
“The case is currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police spokesperson stated.
The command urged the public to report any illegal medical facilities to security agencies.
