FRSC Urges Caution as Hazy Weather Reduces Visibility on Nigerian Roads

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a safety advisory to all motorists across Nigeria, urging heightened caution due to reduced visibility caused by prevailing hazy and dusty weather conditions.

In a statement released on Monday by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps warned that the seasonal dust haze significantly impairs drivers’ vision and increases the risk of road traffic crashes.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized that reduced visibility lowers reaction times, making speeding especially dangerous. He advised drivers to strictly comply with traffic regulations and adopt key safety practices, including:

· Reducing speed and adhering to posted speed limits on affected highways.

· Maintaining a safe following distance to allow adequate reaction time.

· Ensuring headlights, tail lights, and brake lights are functional and used appropriately, even during daytime.

· Avoiding dangerous maneuvers such as wrongful overtaking, overspeeding, and distracted driving.

Motorist’s were also encouraged to report emergencies using the FRSC toll-free line, 122. The Corps assured that patrol teams are on high alert to monitor compliance and provide assistance.

The advisory follows a forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which predicted haziness and sunshine across the country from Monday through Wednesday.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives on the roads and called for collective responsibility during the prevailing weather conditions.
