PSC Extends Police Recruitment Deadline as Over 400,000 Nigerians Apply
The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 Police Constables, following an overwhelming nationwide response.
According to the Commission, over 400,000 applications have already been received since the recruitment portal opened on 15 December 2025.
The new application deadline has now been shifted to 8 February 2026.
The PSC explained that the extension became necessary after a review of application data revealed significant disparities in state participation.
While states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, others — including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra — showed noticeably lower submission rates.
The Commission stated that the move is aimed at ensuring fair and equitable representation across all states of the federation in the recruitment process.
The PSC and the Nigeria Police Force urged state governments, local government councils, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and community leaders to intensify awareness campaigns and encourage qualified youths to take advantage of the extension.
Eligible Nigerians are advised to apply only through the official recruitment portal:
The Commission reiterated that the recruitment process remains free of charge, warning applicants to avoid fraudsters and unofficial agents.
National Security and Youth Employment
The recruitment of 50,000 constables forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen internal security, improve police presence across communities, and provide employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
Officials emphasized that applicants who meet the requirements will proceed through screening, physical verification, and training in line with established guidelines.
The PSC assured Nigerians that transparency, merit, and federal character principles will guide the entire exercise.
