Federal Power Initiative Seeks Partnership with Kwara State
The FGN Power Company has initiated talks with the Kwara State Government to improve electricity supply across the state under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).
The proposal was discussed during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin on Thursday, involving officials from the state’s Ministry of Energy, the FGN Power Company, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Representing the Commissioner for Energy, Permanent Secretary Olaitan Afolabi affirmed the state’s support for the federal initiative. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to boost power infrastructure, including the installation of 34 transformers statewide.
“Power supply is critical to development,” Afolabi stated, adding that the project aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to economic and infrastructural growth, and would benefit residents while attracting investors.
Officials from the FGN Power Company explained that the Offa Injection Sub-station is a key component of the first phase of the PPI. Dr. Robert Eze, Coordinator for Environmental, Social and Governance, stated the initiative aims to bridge Nigeria’s energy gap and deliver more reliable electricity to consumers.
He noted the project is expected to energize more power feeders, enhance commercial and residential activities, and increase Kwara’s appeal to investors.
Also speaking, Chizoba Ezeoke of the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s Osogbo Sub-region said the initiative would create jobs, improve power reliability, and support small businesses in Offa and surrounding communities.
The Meeting was attended by directors and officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Energy and the FGN Power Company team.
