Governor Makinde Says Disruptive Elements Have Been Expelled from Oyo PDP
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, declared on Tuesday that disruptive elements he described as “vagabonds” have been removed from the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, allowing for internal peace.
Speaking during the unveiling of the new Oyo State PDP secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde stated that the party is now free from the internal strife that previously affected it.
Using a Yoruba proverb, the governor explained, “In Yoruba land, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that house has not grown up.”
He traced the rise of the group to the PDP’s loss of power at the federal level in 2015, which he said created a leadership vacuum. “Otherwise, those vagabonds would never have been able to take hold of PDP,” he added.
According to Makinde, this group held influence for about a decade until their expulsion in November 2025. “They had their time, and for 10 years, a decade, they practiced their vagabondry in the PDP. But they have been expelled,” he stated.
The governor also distanced himself and his administration from the party’s internal legal disputes and national leadership issues, asserting, “The government has no interest in PDP lawyer states and no interest in PDP nationally.”
Reflecting on his own political journey, Makinde admitted he had previously been aligned with the group. “I came into government in 2019, and towards 2023, I was yoked with them. But now, I’ve repented,” he said.
He firmly stated he would not support any attempt by the group to regain control of the party, suggesting their influence is fading and predicting their eventual dispersal.
