Lagos Logistics Driver Kidnapped in Borno; Family Appeals for Government Intervention

The family of Adekunle Hafis Ganiyu, a driver for GIG Logistics based in Lagos, has made a public appeal to President Bola Tinubu and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for help securing his release after he was kidnapped last month.

Ganiyu was abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on January 24, 2026, while traveling along the Gombi-Baromari Road in Borno State during a work assignment. A resident of Lagos, he had been operating from the company’s branch in Charity, Oshodi.

In a statement to SaharaReporters, a family member described the profound distress the abduction has caused, particularly for Ganiyu’s elderly mother, who has been inconsolable since receiving the news. They emphasized that Ganiyu is a hardworking young man who was simply pursuing his livelihood.

“The family, especially his aged mother, hereby appeals to Mr. President and the State Governor, Prof. Zulum, to assist in the release of this young man who was in search of daily living but was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists,” the relative stated.

The logistics firm has confirmed the incident and recovered the vehicle Ganiyu was driving at the time. However, his whereabouts remain unknown, deepening the family’s anxiety.

The plea highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Northeast Nigeria, where travel remains hazardous despite military operations against terrorist groups. The family is urging state and federal authorities to intensify efforts to ensure Ganiyu’s safe return.
