Judo Federation Hails Tunji Disu’s Appointment as Acting IGP
The President of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Dr. Musa Oshodi, has extended his congratulations to Tunji Disu on his recent appointment as the acting Inspector General of Police. Oshodi lauded the appointment as a testament to Disu’s professionalism, competence, and integrity in public service.
Disu, who previously served as a Deputy Commissioner of Police, gained recognition within the sports community in 2022 when he secured a silver medal at the 33rd US Open Judo Championship. The tournament, held in Brookline, Massachusetts, attracted over 500 veteran athletes from across the globe.
In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Oshodi highlighted that Disu’s elevation is a reflection of his distinguished service record and leadership qualities within the Nigeria Police Force, as well as his contributions to national development.
“On behalf of the board and the entire family of the Nigeria Judo Federation, I warmly congratulate Mr. Disu, who also served meritoriously as a member of our immediate past board, on this well-deserved appointment,” Oshodi said.
He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the decision, describing it as a reassuring move to place a core professional at the helm of the country’s policing system.
“I am confident that his tenure will strengthen public trust, improve operational efficiency, and foster deeper community engagement across the force,” Oshodi added.
The NJF president also underscored the importance of strong and accountable institutions in driving national progress. He noted that effective policing plays a crucial role in youth empowerment, social stability, and the continued development of sports in Nigeria.
Oshodi expressed optimism that Disu’s leadership would bring about reforms that reinforce discipline and professionalism within the force, while ensuring a citizen-focused approach to policing. He wished the new acting IGP a successful and impactful tenure.
