Gunmen Ambush Security Personnel in Kebbi, Several Killed

Suspected gunmen launched a deadly ambush on a combined team of military and police officers in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, leaving several security personnel and two civilians dead.

The attack occurred on Tuesday night in the Giro Masa community. Eyewitnesses said the assailants had been operating in the area before being tracked to a construction company yard. Following a tip-off from residents, security forces moved to the location but were ambushed along the way.

During the attack, the gunmen reportedly set two military gun trucks on fire.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as chaotic, adding that the assailants opened fire on the security team before fleeing. Another community member said the attack caused panic among residents, with many running for safety.

As of the time of this report, no official statement had been issued by security authorities regarding the incident.

Shanga and other parts of Kebbi State have witnessed sporadic attacks by armed groups in recent years, often targeting security forces and civilians along highways and in rural communities. Security agencies have continued joint operations to address the threat, though challenges related to terrain and intelligence gathering persist.
