Over 70 Terrorists Attack Kwara Community, Kill Two, Injure Vigilante
At least two persons have been killed and a local vigilante officer injured after over 70 heavily armed terrorists attacked Oke Daaba in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
A security source from the community said the attackers launched a coordinated assault on Sunday evening, prompting local vigilantes to mobilise and engage them in a gun duel. The confrontation prevented what could have been a more devastating attack, the source added.
“They were more than 70 terrorists; they started shooting at people and they shot one of our vigilante officers. … The vigilantes stood their ground to confront the terrorists,” the source said.
During the exchange, two residents were killed and the vigilante officer sustained serious gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Residents described the incident as terrifying, with gunfire echoing through the community as families scrambled for safety.
Locals expressed concern over rising insecurity in Kwara South, warning that continued attacks could lead to mass displacement if security agencies and the state government fail to take urgent action.
They called for immediate deployment of more security personnel to the area to prevent further loss of lives and property.
