How Ondo King Impregnated Me, Forced Abortion, Then Harassed Me — Victim Cries Out

A 21-year-old woman from Ipele, in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has accused a traditional ruler in her community of impregnating her, coercing her into aborting the pregnancy, and subjecting her to threats and intimidation.

The woman, Ifemide Kehinde, spoke exclusively to journalists about her ordeal. She alleged that the monarch, whom she referred to as the Kabiyesi of her town, initially proposed marriage, asking her to become his second wife.

“I agreed,” she said. However, after she became pregnant, she claimed the monarch demanded she terminate the pregnancy.

“He threatened me to abort it, which I did. I bled for three weeks and he ignored me,” Kehinde stated.

She further alleged that the monarch did not give her the abortion money directly but sent an aide, described as a civil defence officer, to transfer the funds through a POS agent.

Kehinde said she never wanted to end the pregnancy but complied out of fear for her life. “He said I would go missing,” she added.

The young woman also accused the monarch of orchestrating a campaign of harassment against her, including sharing her phone number with others who allegedly insulted and defamed her. She claimed to possess voice notes from the monarch, his media aide, a civil defence officer, his cousin, and other individuals she said were involved.

In one instance, she alleged that a woman sent by the monarch cursed her, claiming she had aborted three pregnancies and damaged her womb.

Kehinde further alleged a broader pattern of misconduct by the monarch, quoting an unnamed young woman who reportedly said she was “tired of him” and that his behaviour with young women in the palace was excessive.

Despite submitting petitions to the Commissioner of Police, the Ondo State Governor, and the Chieftaincy Affairs office, Kehinde said she had yet to receive justice. She noted that police investigators had visited the hotel where the alleged incident took place and the pharmacy where she bought drugs for the abortion.

When contacted by journalists, the traditional ruler did not provide a substantive response. He simply replied “Ok” to messages and declined to answer further questions about the allegations.
