18 Kidnapped Benue Passengers Rescued, Seven Suspects Arrested – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued all 18 passengers kidnapped from a Benue Links bus in Otukpo, Benue State, on April 15, 2026.

Following a series of intelligence-led clearance operations along the Amla Forest corridor and surrounding areas, security operatives secured the release of the remaining 13 victims. Five passengers had been rescued earlier.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, eight of those rescued were students travelling to Otukpo to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“All 18 passengers involved in the incident have now been accounted for,” the statement confirmed.

Each rescued individual has undergone medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition. They will be reunited with their families after debriefing.

During the operation, police arrested seven suspects, three of whom have been positively identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down other accomplices and dismantle the broader criminal network behind the attack.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended officers of the Benue State Command for their professionalism and bravery in executing the rescue mission. He directed the intensification of security operations within the Otukpo axis to prevent further criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.

The police chief reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country and urged members of the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information.
