Constitutional Amendment: House of Reps Adopts State Police Report, Approves 18 Key Clauses

In a major step toward restructuring Nigeria’s security architecture, the House of Representatives has formally adopted the report on the proposed establishment of state police.

During a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, federal lawmakers deliberated on and approved 18 constitutional amendment clauses embedded in the report.

The approved clauses are part of a broader set of recommendations aimed at restructuring the nation’s security framework. Lawmakers noted that the amendments are designed to strengthen grassroots governance, enhance national security, and improve overall institutional effectiveness across the federation.

The adoption marks a crucial legislative milestone for the state police bill, which has been a subject of intense national debate regarding regional autonomy and local security management. Further legislative processes and concurrent approvals from the Senate and State Houses of Assembly are expected to follow.
