President Tinubu Commends FCT Minister Wike for Rapid Infrastructure Delivery in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his performance in accelerating critical infrastructure development across the nation’s capital.
The president gave the commendation during the official inauguration of Collector Road CN2, also named Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, alongside several interconnected road projects in the Katampe District of Abuja.
Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stated that the minister has fully met administration expectations since taking over the FCT portfolio. The president highlighted Wike’s operational style of delivering tangible results, such as converting abandoned roads into modern thoroughfares, completing major water schemes, and constructing new judicial quarters, without offering administrative excuses.
The presidency noted that the ongoing infrastructure campaign, which includes the widespread installation of solar-powered street lighting, has significantly enhanced urban security, eliminated criminal hideouts, and revived night-time economic activities across the FCT.
Wike explained that the Katampe road network was rapidly conceptualized to address a missing transit link identified after the completion of neighboring infrastructure, including the Gishiri road and Maitama bridge system.
The minister emphasized that comprehensive infrastructure acts as a primary catalyst for private sector investment, pointing to the ongoing construction surge and real estate expansion in Abuja as direct economic indicators.
He further noted that the FCT Administration is systematically extending these infrastructure efforts to rural and satellite towns to connect outlying communities to educational, healthcare, and commercial opportunities.
Wike also announced that the administration will commission a new water supply scheme in Karu to improve access to potable water for residents in satellite communities.
According to technical specifications released by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the newly inaugurated project comprises a 3.9-kilometer road network featuring advanced underground storm drainage, integrated water and sewage pipelines, telecommunication ducts, and pedestrian walkways.
The network is designed to optimize connectivity between the Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, and Maitama districts while unlocking new zones for residential and commercial expansion.
