TikToker Peller Recounts Four-Day Detention Following Arrest
Popular Nigerian TikToker and streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has spoken out about his time in police custody following his arrest last Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos. The 21-year-old content creator was detained for four days following a confrontation with law enforcement officers over a vehicle that was allegedly tinted and lacked a number plate.
In a statement shared via social media after his release, Peller described the experience as a significant ordeal. He claimed that he did not eat or bathe for the duration of his four-day stay in the police cell. He also noted that fellow inmates recognized him and joked with him during his time in detention.
The arrest, which was captured in a viral video, sparked online discussion after Peller accused the officers involved of harassment, claiming they had torn his shirt and threatened him with a firearm. He maintained that the vehicle in question was a recent purchase.
Peller appeared in a Lagos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday alongside a co-defendant, Bello Oladipo. The pair faced a three-count charge involving the obstruction of police officers, conspiracy, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. Following the proceedings, the court granted Peller bail in the sum of ₦500,000, securing his release.
Reflecting on the incident, the social media personality stated that the experience has made him more cautious. He expressed a desire to avoid further legal trouble as he shifts his focus toward his upcoming wedding and future plans.
