Lagos Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Public, Private Schools

The Lagos State Government has released the harmonised academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, after consultations with key education stakeholders coordinated by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

According to the commissioner, the calendar was finalised following two stakeholders’ meetings during which participants reviewed and agreed on the major dates for the new school session.

The approved schedule contains resumption dates, mid-term breaks, examination periods and holidays, providing a uniform framework to guide schools, teachers, parents and students throughout the academic year.

Under the calendar, staff professional development will hold from Monday, September 7, to Friday, September 11, 2026, while the first term begins on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The first term mid-term break is scheduled for Monday, November 2, to Friday, November 6, 2026, while the first term vacation will run from Monday, December 21, 2026, to Friday, January 8, 2027.

The second term will commence on Monday, January 11, 2027, while the third term will begin on Monday, May 3, 2027.

The 2026/2027 academic session will end on Friday, July 30, 2027, with a total of 182 school days.

The state government said the calendar incorporates public holidays, including Independence Day, Eid celebrations, Easter and Workers’ Day, with mandatory observance where applicable.

It added that schools operating international curricula may apply for flexibility by submitting the approved form on or before Friday, August 21, 2026.

Alli-Balogun said the harmonised calendar underscores the state government’s commitment to strengthening the quality of education through a structured and well-coordinated academic session.

“The unified calendar reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and ensuring a well-organised academic year,” the commissioner said.

He urged all public and private schools in Lagos State to adhere strictly to the approved timetable to ensure uniformity in the implementation of academic activities.

The state government also advised members of the public to access the full 2026/2027 academic calendar on the official website of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, oeqalagos.com, as well as on the official Lagos State Government digital platforms.
