Osun Governor Orders Immediate Repairs on Olaiya Bridge Ahead of Flyover Commissioning

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the state Ministry of Works to immediately rehabilitate the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo. The directive comes ahead of the upcoming inauguration of the newly completed Okefia Flyover Bridge.

Governor Adeleke issued the order on Sunday during a personal inspection of the site, where he raised concerns over the deteriorating state of the structure. According to an official statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the Ministry of Works has been tasked with assessing the bridge’s structural integrity, repairing identified defects, and cleaning the facility.

The state government aims to ensure the older structure properly complements the newly built Okefia and Lameco flyovers.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge,” the governor stated during the inspection. “Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge.”

Governor Adeleke emphasized that his administration views governance as a continuum, reiterating his commitment to maintaining existing public infrastructure while completing projects inherited from previous administrations.

Located in the central business district of the state capital, the Olaiya Bridge serves as a vital transit link connecting several major sectors of Osogbo and accommodating thousands of daily commuters.

The planned rehabilitation aligns with the state’s broader infrastructure push, which includes the pending commissioning of the Okefia Flyover a flagship project designed to relieve traffic congestion and optimize intra-city road connectivity.
