Adeleke Campaign Council Accuses Police of Unlawful Arrest of Accord Party Candidate in Osun

The Governor Ademola Adeleke Campaign Council has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Popoola Alaba, the Accord Party’s House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, alongside three other party members following their alleged arrest by police officers in Osun State.

In a statement issued by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the Imole Campaign Council, the group claimed that police officers disrupted a party meeting and forcefully detained Alaba and the other members. The campaign council alleged that the operation was politically motivated to restrict Accord Party leaders from participating in activities ahead of the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election.

The council further alleged that the arrests were coordinated in connection with Senator Francis Fadahunsi and top security officials in the state, warning that the Osun State Police Command and Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan would be held responsible for the safety of the detained individuals. The statement also highlighted growing security concerns, pointing to the recent fatal shooting of an Accord Party member, Yomi David Akanji, by suspected political thugs in Osogbo.

As of the time of the report, the Osun State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
