Governor Alia Commends Approval of New Army Division HQ in Makurdi
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi, describing the decision as a significant boost to regional security efforts.
In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia noted that the new military command which covers operational duties across Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states comes as part of a nationwide expansion of army divisions from eight to 12. He highlighted that the localized command structure will allow for faster response times to security threats, better coordination, and improved protection for local farming communities.
The governor also acknowledged broader military support initiatives, including presidential approval for the recruitment of 28,000 additional army personnel and ongoing investments in troop welfare and defense equipment. Reaffirming his state’s commitment to working alongside federal security agencies, Alia expressed confidence that the new formation would help restore lasting peace and stability across the North-Central zone.
