Father Demands Justice Following Tragic Death of Slain Youth Corp Member and Former SUG President

The family of late Chimaroke Okanimee, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and former Student Union Government (SUG) president of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, has called on authorities to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for his murder in Bayelsa State.

Okanimee went missing on July 24, 2026, while serving his primary assignment in the Nembe area of Bayelsa State. His family became concerned after repeated attempts to contact him failed, prompting his siblings to travel to the state NYSC secretariat. Officials later confirmed his death and showed the family video evidence of his body, which is currently held in a local mortuary.

Speaking on the tragedy, the victim’s father, Okebaram Okanimee, expressed deep grief, describing his late son as the sole academic hopeful of a struggling household.

“Our family’s messiah has been stopped in his prime,” Okanimee said. “We invested everything we had in him so he could lift the family. I want the government to fish out my son’s killers, arrest, and prosecute them.”

The late corp member studied Civil Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, where he graduated before being deployed for his mandatory service year in 2026. Family members noted he was a reserved individual with no known disputes, though his family recalled a minor concern he previously voiced regarding suspicious behavior from individuals in his Nembe neighborhood.

NYSC officials and security personnel have formally delivered condolences to the family in Imo State. Meanwhile, the family continues to appeal to the government and law enforcement agencies for a swift investigation to ensure justice is served.
