Nigerian Troops Foil IED Plot and Intercept Terrorist Logistics Vendor with N5.3M in Zamfara

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully neutralised a planted improvised explosive device (IED) and arrested a suspect carrying over ₦5.3 million in cash intended for terrorist funding across Zamfara State.

The military operations were carried out following targeted intelligence actions in multiple communities. Near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area, military units partnered with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to locate, defuse, and safely clear a roadside bomb, allowing vehicular traffic to resume without incident. While returning from the site, troops engaged armed terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, forcing them to retreat into nearby forests and recovering abandoned motorcycles, communication gear, and military accoutrements.

In a separate action near Kwanar Jolof in Shinkafi Local Government Area, security forces repelled another group of armed fighters, securing additional military camouflage gear and equipment.

Meanwhile, during a patrol near Maradun, troops intercepted 35-year-old Lawali Dan Alo, who was carrying a bag containing ₦5.302 million in cash concealed under food items. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly delivering the funds on behalf of a terrorist commander to another accomplice, Kasimu Garba, who was subsequently taken into custody at his residence.

The military leadership commended the troops for their vigilance and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols and counter-terrorism measures to ensure safety across the North-West region.
