Court Orders Police Investigation of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Incitement and Violence Threats

ABUJA / OSOGBO —A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 7) to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged inciting comments made ahead of the Osun State governorship election. Presiding Magistrate Farida Ibrahim ordered the police to conduct a full inquiry into the criminal complaint and submit an official report within two weeks.

The directive follows a complaint filed by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Osun State Governor’s Campaign Council. The complaint alleges that Senator Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, appeared in a viral video urging political violence and attacks against members and supporters of the Accord Party.

Parallel to the court order, Olajengbesi’s legal team has threatened a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against the lawmaker, demanding an immediate retraction and public apology regarding broadcast interviews where Fadahunsi alleged Olajengbesi sponsored violent cult groups.

In a related move, the Osun State Government, through Attorney-General Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN), has filed a suit at the High Court in Osogbo against the Inspector-General of Police and the State Commissioner of Police. The state is seeking a court order compelling law enforcement to secure and forensically examine the video, conduct a thorough probe into the source of the alleged threats, and implement protective measures for citizens ahead of the upcoming governorship poll.

The senator, who was previously questioned and released by police authorities regarding the matter, faces growing calls for formal criminal prosecution should the ongoing investigations confirm the allegations.
