Nigerian Military Neutralizes Terrorists, Intercepts Courier Carrying 180 Explosives in Zamfara

Troops operating under the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated several terrorists, seized weapons, and intercepted a major explosive smuggling operation in Zamfara State. The successful military actions were detailed in a statement by Media Information Officer Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, following offensive operations conducted across the region.

During a clearance operation in the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, Sector 2 troops engaged a group of terrorists near Garin Kaso in a fierce firefight, neutralizing two insurgents on the spot. Military personnel recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles from the scene. Shortly after, another group of insurgents attempted a counter-ambush from hidden positions, but troops decisively fought through the attack and inflicted heavy casualties, forcing the remaining fighters to flee into surrounding areas.

In a separate interception on the same day, military forces stopped a major logistics run at a snap checkpoint in Gusau. Troops arrested 57-year-old Sani Umar, who was allegedly transporting 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives intended for criminal elements operating in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. The suspect, vehicle, and recovered explosives were immediately taken into custody for further investigation.

According to the Theatre Command, these coordinated successes highlight the military’s ongoing offensive strategy across the North-West. By simultaneously raiding insurgent hideouts and cutting off critical supply chains for weapons and explosives, security forces continue to restrict the movement and operational capacity of terrorist groups throughout the region.
