Makinde: Osun Voters Defied Violence, Federal Might, Hails Adeleke’s Victory
Oyo State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, ‘Seyi Makinde, has congratulated his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the victory as a triumph of democracy and the will of the people.
Makinde said Adeleke’s victory was a reward for his commitment to good governance and service to the people of Osun State.
The governor, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, also commended Osun voters for their courage and determination in exercising their franchise despite what he described as violence and attempts to deploy federal power in the election.
He urged Adeleke to regard his re-election as an opportunity to consolidate his achievements and intensify efforts to improve the lives of the people of Osun State.
According to Makinde, the outcome of the election once again demonstrated that political power ultimately belongs to the people in a democracy.
“The results of the election proved again that the people reserve the absolute power in a democracy and that their movement will always triumph over all other considerations,” he said.
Makinde further praised the people of Osun State for voting according to their convictions, saying the outcome had shown that the will of the electorate could prevail over political manoeuvring and other considerations.
He urged the re-elected governor to remain focused on delivering inclusive development and good governance to the people of the state.
