Zamfara: Military Foils Abduction Attempts On Gurusu Road, Rescue 7 Hostages
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled multiple abduction attempts and neutralized an Improvised Explosive Device in separate operations across Zamfara State.
The Joint Task Force North West said in a statement on Sunday that on August 17, 2026, Sector 2 troops responded to an abduction along the Gurusu–Anka Road. The troops pursued the attackers, who fled and abandoned their captives. Seven persons, including 4 women and 3 children, were rescued unharmed.
In Tsafe Local Government Area, troops also responded to a distress call of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village. The assailants fled into the bush during a gun duel. Some of the rescued victims sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Also on the same day, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely neutralized an IED planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum LGA after the area was cordoned off. No casualty was recorded.
According to the Theatre Command, the operations reflect the troops’ commitment to securing communities and major highways in the North West.
Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, said the command will sustain offensive operations against terrorist elements and urged residents to provide credible information on suspicious activities.
