Wike Predicts Easier 2027 Re-election Victory for President Tinubu Amid Opposition Fragmentation

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has asserted that President Bola Tinubu will secure a smoother victory in the 2027 presidential election compared to the 2023 contest, attributing the prediction to a weakened and divided opposition.

Speaking during an inspection tour of flood-prone areas in Abuja, Wike stated that the fragmented state of opposition parties, characterized by political defections and frequent platform changes, severely limits their ability to present a formidable challenge. He noted that building a viable opposition requires years of consistent strategic planning rather than last-minute party switching in search of electoral tickets. Dismissing political commentary from critics, the minister emphasized that media appearances would not diminish the administration’s achievements over the past three years.

In addition to his political commentary, Wike addressed urban planning and environmental enforcement across the Federal Capital Territory, warning that upcoming elections would not deter the administration from taking decisive action.

He ordered the immediate demolition of structures built on water channels and green zones, specifically in flood-prone areas like Lokogoma and Asokoro. Reaffirming the administration’s willingness to enforce environmental compliance regardless of property ownership, Wike directed officials to bypass bureaucratic delays and maintain continuous desilting and infrastructure interventions to mitigate flooding.
