FAAN Faces Criticism Over Airport Taxi Fare Charges in Lagos

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has come under public scrutiny following complaints about the pricing of its newly introduced airport car-hire service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The controversy gained attention after a passenger shared an experience online, alleging that he was quoted N30,000 for a short trip from the airport to a hotel in Ikeja. The fare sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users comparing it to significantly lower rates offered by ride-hailing platforms operating in the city.

Passengers and observers have questioned the pricing structure of the service, arguing that the charges are considerably higher than those of alternative transport providers. Comparisons circulating online showed that similar journeys could be completed through other ride-hailing services at a fraction of the quoted amount.

The airport car-hire platform was recently introduced as part of efforts to improve passenger safety, convenience, and regulation of transportation services within airport premises. However, concerns over affordability and competitiveness have continued to generate reactions from travellers and industry stakeholders.

Some aviation experts have argued that the issue extends beyond transportation costs, raising broader concerns about competition, consumer protection, and the role of public institutions in commercial activities.
