Anambra to Electorates: Peter Obi Betrayed APGA, Resist Him in 2027
The Anambra State Government has urged voters in the state to resist Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in the 2027 general election.
The call was contained in a post published on the state government’s official X account, managed by the Office of New Media to Governor Charles Soludo, on Monday.
The government accused Obi of working against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party that produced him as governor of the state, while claiming that President Bola Tinubu stood with APGA.
In a graphic titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA”, the government said: “Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him.
“In 2015, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed the opposition to bury us. Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home, resist the NDC.”
The development comes against the backdrop of Soludo’s previous declaration of support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
In 2025, Soludo said his backing for the President was based on their 22-year friendship and his assessment of Tinubu’s economic and structural reforms.
Speaking with journalists after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Soludo said: “President Tinubu is my friend; he has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend. I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the economy and structural reforms. We’re taking the right steps, and we need to stay the course.”
The governor also described Tinubu as “in high spirits, hale and hearty” and called on political parties that identify as progressive to form a broad coalition to strengthen democracy and promote economic and social development.
In July, APGA also endorsed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the absence of APGA’s presidential candidate on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal should not be interpreted as a failure to meet electoral requirements.Get Local Permits
Opara said the party’s leadership had reached the decision to support Tinubu’s re-election bid after extensive consultations among its members.
He added that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had resolved that backing the President’s second-term bid was in the overall interest of the country.
Meanwhile, Obi and the Soludo administration have recently disagreed over financial obligations linked to projects implemented during Obi’s tenure as Anambra governor.Check Voting Info
Obi said he had remained silent on the matter in recent days because he was mourning his late elder brother and friend, Chief Okey Ezeibe.Access Services
He also said he was not interested in returning to the governorship, even if the Constitution were amended.
Obi rejected the description of the facilities as “debt owed by Peter Obi”, arguing that they were primarily programmes funded through the World Bank and International Fund for Agricultural Development and negotiated by the Federal Government before being accessed by participating states through subsidiary arrangements.
He said the figures being discussed should be separated into the amount approved, the amount actually drawn and the outstanding balance when he left office.Track Exec Orders
Obi said: “The government has combined these distinct categories, added them together, and described the resulting US$123.77 million as ‘loans left by Peter Obi.’ That is an incorrect application of public-sector accounting.”
He further maintained that he did not personally approach any financial institution to borrow money or issue a bond on behalf of Anambra State.
As of press time, neither Obi nor any member of his team had reacted to the state government’s latest allegation of betrayal.
