NAF Intensifies Search For Crashed Aircraft As CAS Visits Home Unit In Benin
Search and recovery efforts for ill-fated Nigerian Air Force, NAF, ATR 42 aircraft, NAF 931, are ongoing, with Nigerian Navy and other security agencies providing support.
Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, disclosed this on October 8, 2026, when he engaged personnel of 107 Air Maritime Group, AMG, NAF Base Benin City, home unit of crashed aircraft.
Aneke, who commended personnel for their resilience and professionalism, expressed appreciation to Nigerian Navy and other security agencies for their invaluable support in ongoing search and recovery efforts.
He also reaffirmed service’s commitment to supporting affected personnel and families of those who lost lives in accident, describing deceased as dedicated patriots who served nation with honour and commitment.
CAS assured bereaved families of continued emotional, administrative and institutional support, including assistance towards education of their children through scholarship awards.
Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed commitment to strengthening 107 AMG through improved welfare, sustained training and availability of appropriate operational platforms to restore unit’s operational effectiveness.
Responding, Commander, 107 AMG, Air Commodore Onu, appreciated CAS for his leadership, compassion and commitment to welfare of personnel and families of fallen.
Onu said engagement had boosted morale and reaffirmed unit’s resolve to remain dedicated to duty and uphold professional standards of NAF.
CAS reiterated that service would continue to stand by affected families and personnel while ensuring thorough and professional investigation into circumstances surrounding accident is pursued.
