Trader, Nuhu Jonathan Bags 2-year Jail Term For Possession Of Firearm In Jos
Magistrate Tapmwa Gotep Jos on Tuesday has jailed a 35-year-old trader, Nuhu Jonathan, to two years in the correctional centre for unlawful possession of a locally made gun.
Gotep sentenced Jonathan after he pleaded guilty to the charge, however, he was given an option of an N30,000 fine.
The judge said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Frank Alex, had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 9, at the Rantya Police Station by officers on duty.
Alex said the convict was found with the locally made gun during a stop and search by Operation Safe Heaven, but could not explain how he came about the gun.
The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law.
