Tinubu Moves Surveyor-General’s Office to Presidency

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) from the Federal Ministry of Works to the Presidency, in a move aimed at strengthening national mapping and geospatial intelligence systems.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after Thursday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, chaired by the President.

The transfer is intended to streamline the coordination of geospatial data for more effective governance, infrastructure planning, and land administration.

“The realignment places OSGoF under the direct oversight of the Presidency to ensure greater efficiency in data-driven decision-making,” Idris said.

While detailed reasons were not disclosed, the minister indicated that the decision aligns with the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda and growing dependence on geospatial intelligence to support economic development, urban planning, and security operations.

The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation is Nigeria’s official mapping agency, responsible for producing and managing geospatial data, maps, and related services for public and private use.
