Abia State Govt Inaugurates New Healthcare Facility, Housing Units

Abia State Government has taken possession of a state-of-the-art primary healthcare centre in Ndi Okereke Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area, donated by philanthropist Chief James Ume, also known as IKEM ABAM.

The facility, inaugurated alongside 30 housing units for the underprivileged and a church hall for Idima Abam community, was handed over to the government in a ceremony attended by officials.

Governor Alex Otti, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, praised Ume’s gesture, highlighting its alignment with his administration’s public private partnership initiative aimed at improving community welfare.

“This is what the government is looking for  public-private partnership, all geared towards making society better,” Otti said, urging beneficiaries to maintain the facilities.

Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, lauded the healthcare centre’s modern equipment, including multi-parameter monitors, oxygen delivery devices, laboratory, and family planning clinic.

Uche noted that the centre was built and equipped by UNUBIKO foundation, Ume’s philanthropic arm, as part of Project Ekwueme.

Ume explained that the projects aimed to support Governor Otti’s developmental agenda and uplift his community. He commended Otti’s infrastructure development, including the Abam-Arochukwu Road, and called for continued support for the government.

The inauguration highlights Abia State’s efforts to enhance healthcare and infrastructure through partnerships with private donors.
