Abia Traditional Leaders Endorse Governor Otti for Second Term, Pledge 2027 Support

The Abia Council of Traditional Prime Ministers has declared its full support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 general elections, passing a vote of confidence in his administration.
In a communiqué issued after its quarterly meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday, the council praised Otti’s performance since taking office, citing what it described as transformative development in the state despite inheriting what it called nothing.
The group, led by its President, Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu, specifically highlighted the governor’s urban renewal projects in Umuahia and the commercial city of Aba. It noted improvements in infrastructure, road networks, security, and an upcoming state electricity program.
“We want to assure the governor that in 2027, the traditional prime ministers in Abia State… will work for his re-election,” the communiqué stated. It added that the council had adopted Otti as its “lone governorship candidate” for the poll, stressing that the decision was based on performance rather than partisanship.
The council also acknowledged a significant increase in the status and emoluments of traditional rulers under Otti’s administration and appealed for the continued inclusion of their welfare.
Governor Otti, a former bank CEO, was elected in 2023. The traditional leaders argued that the opposition “has nothing to offer the Abia people” and emphasized their commitment to ensuring continuity in governance.
